If you’re located in Seattle, South Puget Sound (Washington), Oregon, Denver, Cleveland, Akron-Canton, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, or Connecticut (New Haven/Hartford) and don’t already have a checking account with KeyBank, you may be eligible to earn $200 by opening a Key Express Checking Account.
The account has a monthly maintenance fee of $7, but it’s is waived if you have more than $500 in deposits or eight transactions per statement cycle.
In order to receive the offer, you must make a direct deposit (payroll, Social Security, pension, or government benefits) of $500 and a total of five debit card and/or bill payments within 60 days of account opening. The $200 bonus will be deposited within 90 days of doing so.
If you close your account within 180 days from opening, you’ll be hit with a $25 account closure fee, so try to keep it open for six months.
The $200 will be reported to the IRS on Form 1099-INT (for interest income), so you’ll be responsible for paying appropriate taxes on it. It will be taxed as regular income based on your tax bracket (view the 2017 tax brackets).
Signing up requires a $50 account deposit, which will be added to your account’s balance if you’re approved, or returned to you in the case that you aren’t.
